Avoiding scammers when buying parts

This comes up constantly in the Facebook group, so it belongs somewhere you can actually find it again.

If you post a wanted ad

Don’t take it to private messages straight away. Ask them to post what they have in the replies, in the open. Only move to DMs once you’re satisfied they’re genuine.

Scammers rely on getting you into a private conversation quickly, where nobody else can see what they’re claiming to have.

Paying

Don’t send money for anything you haven’t seen. If you want to buy it, go and collect it. That one rule removes almost all of the risk.

Scammers move on when they realise there are easier groups to work. Let’s keep this one difficult.
